The project will give voice to youth in Palestine, to become more engaged in the socio-political life. Become critical and creative and able to take a responsible role in the community. Be ready to face challenges and work on changing the unaccepted reality. Become aware of their abilities and develop their possibilities.
Palestine is still facing the challenge of the Corona Virus Pandemic, yet the greater challenge comes from the Israeli Colonial Occupation. Thus youth are trying to find a way to be, to breath and to serve the community without being shutdown or shot at. The latest uprising in the country show clearly how youth are targeted by the occupation in the different cities around historical Palestine. Even peaceful demonstrations in Jerusalem are attacked.
Art is a strong means that gives youth a way to express themselves, think freely and resist the oppression creatively. Theatre ignites the minds and hearts of the youth participants in this festival that holds the title "ARTIVISM" and raise critical questions that will transform them and help them become more involved. As it will invite the audience to think deeper and look for new possibilities and solutions to the many issues raised in the festival through the plays that will be presented.
According to our Facebook statistics: 26,622 viewers followed the ten plays that were projected during the pandemic. And the number of ASHTAR followers increased from 5,780 to 7,577. This encouraged us to invest more in the digital appearance of our work. Thus we are continuing to present our plays online and preparing new productions, suitable for live streaming and online projection.
