Dear Friends and partners of Keep The Dream196,

Firstly I would like to thank you for your support in sponsoring this project. Through you we have received $265 out of our total $3,000. This is our second microproject we have attempted and although we didnt achieve our goal we still piloted this project as an experiment. We were expecting to run the project in the March-April school holidays and complete it during the June-July holidays when the children were available. We were going to target those children who failed matriculation however all of our children passed matriculation and have either gone on to higher education or work. What a wonderful problem to have.

Consequently, because we didn't reach our target or have any children available for this project your donation will be put towards the overall programme, I trust this is acceptable to you. The overall project enables the children to succeed at school and reduce the 68% youth unemployment rate currently experienced in Greater Tzaneen District.

The overall programme has had such successes as:

  • 87% overall pass rate over 10yrs versus a provincial pass rate of 65%
  • Teenage pregnancy rate of 0.07%o per annum with the provincial average being 13%.
  • 0% of children committed suicide (current rate is 10% of all natural deaths of children in the province)
  • 0% of children involved negatively with the police or law courts.

Finally through the whole program we have been working since 2003 we are now seeing the 1st Generation of beneficiaries coming back as adult leaders giving to the programme and working to assist other children in the area to succeed. In the picture that is attached you will see Kheto on the right, this young man is studying externally a Bachelors of Science - computer and volunteering with KTD196. The children on the left are the 2nd generation coming through. It is so exciting to see the whole programme becoming more sustainable. The young lady is Nkululeko, who was one of the original 13 children we started with in 2003, she has started working full time with Keep The Dream196 as a fully qualified Social Worker over 2years ago.

As you can see we are moving forward and having wonderful results and you are part of our success, thank you again.
