We provide weekly art and music classes to 80 Vietnamese children living in poverty, and summer art camps to 150 children. Our goal is to inspire and empower students to complete their education, and to help them find their own voice and explore their strengths and individuality. Through the arts, we help our students develop their self-esteem and confidence; guiding and supporting them in completing their education successfully.
The lives of poor, young students in Vietnam are incredibly difficult. Working to help their families while trying to stay in school, there's little opportunity to be creative and expressive as individuals. Classes in the arts are only provided until the 5th grade, and in these classes students are taught strict technical skills. Students who are passionate about art and music will have the chance to explore their creativity while discovering their own voice within a supportive community.
Studies have shown that youth who are engaged in extracurricular arts programs are far more likely to excel and remain in school. By providing students an avenue for self-expression, we offer temporary relief from rigorous school schedules and difficult life situations. This project offers the students the means in which they can express themselves in a stress free environment while building lifelong skills and relationships.
This project helps children and young adults develop skills they would otherwise not have the means to develop - skills that are powerful catalysts for future jobs. This project helps develop and instill confidence and self-worth in children from underserved communities in Vietnam.
