Winter is fast approaching and temperatures are dropping. Brutal cold will soon engulf Dehradun. As we wrap ourselves in warm clothes and heated homes, staying warm on the streets and in ramshackle huts is a challenge. Children will fall sick and be absent from school without thermals this winter. We need 2,000 thermal track suits for our children this year! This Diwali please share your love and warmth with our children, spread the light to lessen the darkness and cold!
We have noticed that the months of November to February record the highest dropouts and the lowest level of school attendance. We discovered one of the major reasons is the lack of adequate thermal clothes. This roots back to the unfavorable environment they come from: extreme poverty, discouraging parents, and education being low on priority compared to survival.
Our slum and street children get sick without proper clothing for the winter. If they are sick, they cannot attend school. Every year we respond to this issue by providing appropriate thermal clothes to them. We need 2,000 thermal track suits this year. Through this project, we aim to raise INR 700,000 / $ 10,000 for 1,400 children. INR 500 / $ 7 provides one child a pair of thermal track suit.
Winter in Dehradun can be extremely harsh. Brutal cold can severely affect our children's attendance at schools. It's a terrible cycle that further marginalizes them. Wearing appropriate thermal clothes will help children stay warm and focus on their studies. This will directly have an impact on student outcomes; improved academic performance and better health.
