Happy 5th Anniversary Women's Resource Center!! For five years now, we have been working hard to empower women and advocate for women's rights and gender equality in Cambodia. In 2016, we will run our successful informal educational workshops in the villages in Siem Reap province and fight the current culture of silence and outdated social norms. We want EVERYONE to actively change the social norms that perpetuate gender inequality.
In Cambodia, there is an old saying that goes, "a man is gold and a women is cloth." In other words, men never lose their shine or value, but women tear or get dirty. Well, we say this kind of cultural stigmatization stops here!
In 2016, Women's Resource Center will expand their work to include workshops in nearby villages. Working with the local authority, the organization will first survey local inhabitants to fully understand the community's current needs and struggles. A pilot program of tailored workshops will run throughout the year and will monitor the community's progress.
Providing information and education to women and their families, the cycle of poverty can be broken to enable brighter futures for Cambodian women and girls - enabling women's dreams to become a reality. When equipped with knowledge, women understanding their rights resulting in new found confidence and empowerment. This enables them to know how best to protect and look after themselves and make informed decisions about their own lives, and those of their children.
