Our children's hospital in Uganda has been offered a nearly-new incubator (only one previous occupant) at a great price of just over GBP 1200 / USD 1500. We need this incubator now because people are bringing newborn babies to us, and some of them need the extra shelter that the incubator provides. For now the seller (an NGO) is lending the incubator to us, but we need to pay for it soon!
Babies who need urgent medical treatment can't always find it at hospitals in Uganda. The hospitals are not well equipped, don't have well qualified medical staff or the treatment is unaffordable for most families. Recently, parents have been bringing some newborn babies to Whisper's hospital.
The incubator will prevent unnecessary death of newborn babies, who are Uganda's great future. It will provide the extra necessary shelter that some newborn babies need.
The incubator will be heavily used and it is likely to save many lives that might otherwise be lost. This is a very cost-effective way to save lives. As usual with Whisper, 100% of the money you give through this campaign will go to the project. GlobalGiving charges a fee on each donation (and they are worth it!) but an individual donor will make a donation to compensate for the fee.
