HALO teams in Afghanistan are responding to the October 2023 earthquakes in Afghanistan. We are doing this by providing food packages and other supplies for impacted families, first aid and ambulance support, and performing rubble removal using our excavators. We will continue to mobilize our resources to where they are needed most.
Destructive earthquakes in Herat provinces in Afghanistan have had a devastating affect on families. Aftershocks have impacted additional families. According to Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authorities, over 20,000 homes have been seriously damaged, and 113,000 people have been affected and displaced by the recent earthquakes.
The HALO Trust is responding to and providing relief to these earthquakes and supporting impacted families. We are providing food packages and cooking supplies, first aid and evacuation support. We are also using our excavators to assist with rubble removal as well as performing manual excavation to help families uncover their food stocks and household belongings from the rubble.
Our work also has a huge stabilizing affect on communities through employment and training. HALO's program in Afghanistan is completely Afghan led, with an ethnically diverse workforce of over 2,500 staff, recruited directly from towns and villages affected, who work every day to help their country. For many, it is the only steady employment they have known. We provide legitimate job opportunities, promoting peace and ensuring families can put food on the table.
