Following our previous report, sent in November, we've now retired our project on GlobalGiving to provide a "A home for Lanzlee"
We were unable to proceed as planned with this project due to a variety of delays in the main construction process and the departure of our engineer from Tacloban at the end of his contract.
In our last report we proposed either refunding your donation, or reallocating it to our other long-term disaster recovery projects in Tacloban, such as those supporting education.
As there was no request for a refund we subsequently reallocated your donation towards supporting Guintigian Elementary school just outside of Tacloban. The school was damaged by typhoon Haiyan and this left its 147 students without a safe, enriching place to learn.
Two of the school’s classrooms were makeshift buildings which were badly exposed to the elements. The roofs leaked and during rains classes had to be suspended. School supplies were often also damaged.
To address these problems we’ve renovated and extended one of the classrooms and completely rebuilt the other. We've also added a second bathroom as the school only had one previously.
This work has changed the llives of the kids at the school and we thank you so much for allowing us to reallocate your donation.
The nature of our work means that things don't always go to plan. However, we sincerely apologise once again for any disappointment or inconvenience we have caused as a result of the original plan not proceeding.
If you have questions or would like to receive a refund, please don’t hesitate to email Andy@IDVolunteers.org. I would be delighted to hear from you.
