Summary

This project will help buy a new friend and mate for our rescued Zebra Stallion, MilkyWay who recently lost his much-loved female zebra, Tammy. She had been with us for over 15 years and tragically was injured. Our vet helped and I spent two weeks tracking her in the bush, taking supplement feeds and water to her,and treating her wound but sadly she did not make it. MilkyWay mourned, calling her for weeks. Happily he has now found a new striped friend that is for sale, on a neighboring property.

Challenge

MilkyWay our rescued zebra stallion recently lost his much-loved female zebra Tammy. who had been with us for over 15 years. She had been injured but after two weeks of treatment she suddenly lay down and deteriorated, I lifted her head and she ate an apple but put her head down while eating! She was so weak. The end was inevitable. She was shivering and it was raining. I covered her with blankets to keep her warm. After she died, milky way mourned her for weeks calling her incessantly.

Solution

The happy news is that Milkyway has found a new friend. But she is on a neighboring property. They stand next to each other every day, each on one side of the fence that separates them. She has been offered for sale and we would love to buy her, and bring her to join MilkyWay and the other zebra in his Wildlife Reserve. But we need support to do so.

Long-Term Impact

Your support will help us to continue preventing undue suffering of wild animals that are ill, injured or orphaned both inside our Wildlife Sanctuary and in the surrounding Rural Environs of The Isimangaliso World Natural Heritage Site, South Africa. Often wild animals are seen as mere commodities and if injured others that cannot afford treatment, would simply leave "nature to take its course" We, however, are committed to preventing any animal from suffering. Thank you for caring too.
