Thank you so much for your support towards a new computer lab for the Fountains of Hope School in Kibera. With your help, we were able to raise over half of our target through crowdfunding and a church in the UK has provided the rest of the funds needed to reach our target.
Our first batch of 11 desktop computers arrived today!
We have some repairs and set up to do in the school to prepare the room before we can start using them but by next month, the children should be using the computers.
We have opted for these Endless OS computers which are tiny but packed full of educational content and apps. Each computer has a complete set of all the Kenyan curriculum textbooks as ebooks. They also have an encyclopedia in English and Kiswahili so kids can research topics offline. There are games to teach kids how to use a mouse and how to type, how to code, learn different languages, practice maths and literacy and lots more that we haven't explored yet.
We will be using the computer lab to offer IT classes to our students, our teachers will also make use of the lab to bring IT into teaching different subjects. We aim to make the lab available for the kids to use after school to continue their learning.
This is the first phase of the lab set-up, we also plan to get a generator to power the computers during the frequent power cuts, a projector to use in teaching and some laptops that can be used throughout the school and community library.
Thank you so much for helping us to make this happen, we can't wait to open the lab for the kids, they are going to be over the moon!
