This project helps set up another computer training bureau and internet cafe for youth project in another center in Uganda.2 years ago GlobalGiving donors helped set up one computer bureau in central Uganda. The computer training will focus on helping youth learn how to use general office software such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access etc...), website development and design, search engine optimization and social media training.
There are over 10,000 youth in Buwama subcounty, but only approximately 20 can access technology and, as a result, they fall behind their peers. Most companies advertise jobs online and ask applications be submitted online, over 50 youth have missed these opportunities because they have no idea on how to use internet and a few that can use it cannot access the service, there is only one internet cafe in town charging $1 per 30 minutes, an amount that an average Ugandan lives on per day
The project will use available space on the Mountains of Hope field office to set up the system, the programme will enroll 50 youth per quarter beginning February 2017, we will empower them to use internet packages including Google, yahoo search among others, The youth will be awarded certificates of completion after three months study to enable them acquire jobs in this competitive market
The project will employ three youth who completed computer training at the current available computer training center set up with support from generous Globalgiving donors two years ago, these will be permanent internet teaching staff. The project will charge a subsidized fee of $30 per youth for a full course to cater for certificate printing and to show a sense of commitment towards studies
