Providing Permanent Classrooms

Unfortunately this microproject was retired without raising any donations.

While this is disappointing the situation in Nepal has also developed since we originally posted this project.

Our plans to provide Sudip with a classroom were originally delayed by a fuel crisis last year. This made buying and transporting construction materials prohibitively expensive. But in mid-February, once the fuel crisis ended, we were looking forward to resuming these plans, and so we posted this project.

Sadly, when we later returned to the school we discovered that, despite our frequent assurances, the staff had grown weary of the delays and had pressed on with their own improvements. Lacking resources they’d only been able to build semi-permanent classrooms, but this was on the land allocated for our own work, meaning their structure would have to be demolished for us to proceed.

With so many other children still learning in temporary classrooms both we and the school were reluctant to take this step.  And so, with sadness on both sides, we decided that it was better for us to focus our efforts and resources elsewhere.

So, we’re now working to provide five permanent classrooms at another school in Sindhupalchok.  While we’re disappointed not to be able to help Sudip as planned the 600 kids at the new school are also in desperately need of support.

As our result our work is still making a huge impact to help earthquake affected kids, and this is all thanks to our amazing donors.

Thanks for reading and please keep checking our projects on GlobalGiving for updates.
