What if I’m not invited to apply for a grant?

If you are not immediately invited to apply for a grant through GlobalGiving, you can still join our community of nonprofits around the world by participating in our Accelerator program!

The GlobalGiving Accelerator is an opportunity for you and your organization to build skills, access tools, and grow your base of supporters to achieve crowdfunding success. Following an optional one-week training curriculum, you’ll be entered into an Accelerator campaign where you’ll raise at least $5,000 total from a minimum of 40 different donors in order to graduate and secure a permanent spot in the GlobalGiving community. Once you graduate, you’ll have access to all the tools, training, matching campaigns, grant opportunities, and one-on-one support available in the GlobalGiving community.

GlobalGiving is committed to supporting Mexican nonprofits as they rebuild their communities following the September 2017 earthquakes. We believe that community-led organizations working locally are best suited to bring long term relief to affected individuals and communities.

Since September 2017, Globalgiving has worked with different nonprofits across Mexico to support their recovery and relief efforts.

By bringing support to local nonprofits, we look to support affected communities from a perspective that empowers each organization’s capabilities and respects local recovery work.

Ramón and Rosa

The region of Tehuantepec, Oaxaca was one of the most affected by the September 2017 earthquakes. More than 153,000 homes were damaged in the state of Chiapas and Oaxaca and the home of Ramón and Rosa was no exception.
The first reconstruction project finished was Ramón and Rosa’s home and they were involved throughout the process. GlobalGiving’s collaboration with Cooperación Comunitaria made the reconstruction of more than 63 houses possible. The new homes are being built with the help of the homeowners, using local materials and traditional building techniques from the region.
Cooperación Comunitaria is also helping earthquake-affected homeowners build traditional comixcal ovens. Made of bricks, the ovens are special for baking tortilla toast and essential to continue with the region's bread making tradition.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you select which organizations will be invited to apply for a grant from GlobalGiving?
opened toggle arrow
GlobalGiving is looking to partner long-term with Mexican nonprofits that are deeply rooted in their communities. We look for organizations with a track record of successful social impact and long-term commitment to communities in México.

Does my org have to be a registered 501(c)(3) with the United States IRS?
No. Your organization does not have to be a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit with the US government, but you must be a nonprofit registered in the location where your office is based. We are happy to work with organizations that are registered in México but are not federally registered 501(c)(3)organizations with the United States IRS.

What is the typical size of a grant made by GlobalGiving?
Disaster relief grants from GlobalGiving typically range from $5,000 to $200,000, depending on the size of the nonprofit and the scope of the project.

If I receive a grant from GlobalGiving, do I have to post a project on the GlobalGiving.org site?
Yes, GlobalGiving is a community—not just a grantmaker! Our support comes in the form of grants, crowdfunding support from individuals, corporate partners, matching funds, tools, training, and more. We’re committed to work with you long-term to support your work through a variety of means, so we do require our partners to have a project on the GlobalGiving site for our donor community to support.

What are the reporting requirements?
Nonprofits that post a project on the GlobalGiving.org site are required to submit short, quarterly narrative reports on their project’s progress. There may be additional reporting requirements if you receive a grant larger than $100,000.

Is English a requirement to be a part of the GlobalGiving community?
Your organization does not have to operate in English, but you must have someone on your staff that will be able to post projects and submit reports in English.
