5 Education-Focused Charities To Fuel With Your QCD

We picked five trusted, community-led organizations advancing education that you can support through your QCD.

You’ve decided you want to make a qualified charitable distribution (QCD) in support of education—but what charities qualify for QCD gifts? All of the high-impact organizations on this list do. They’re focused on improving education around the world and just five out of thousands of trusted nonprofits you can support with a QCD through GlobalGiving.

1. Improve school for 700 Dominican students in need.

Young people in Veron, Dominican Republic have limited access to education in an increasingly demanding local labor market. Quality education is vital for them to have better job opportunities. The Ann & Ted Kheel Polytechnic School in the eastern Dominican Republic serves these youth by offering high school courses and technical skills training. It’s the only school of its kind in the area. This project, managed by Fundacion Grupo Puntacana, supports the school by maintaining and expanding its facilities and developing extensive training programs to improve teachers’ performance. The project also offers extracurricular activities including an English language learning program.

2. Prevent child trafficking through education in Thailand.

An estimated 60,000 children are sexually exploited in Thailand every year, and limited resources and opportunities for students living under the poverty line are among the root causes. The Freedom Story developed a holistic approach to reducing exploitation through education, human rights, and sustainable livelihoods. Through scholarships and additional support, this project aims to reduce the risk of being trafficked for children and their families and give them hope for a better future.

“By providing educational scholarships and access to a multitude of resources, we are seeing lives transformed. Dropout rates have plummeted, and graduation rates have soared.”

3. Provide equal opportunities for Turkish students.

Financial and cultural barriers prevent many children in Turkey from accessing quality education. The Darussafaka Society, the first education-focused nonprofit in Turkish history, was founded in 1863 to provide equal opportunities in education to talented children. Through this project, fifth-grade students receive full scholarships to help them continue their education.

“Thanks to the continued support and commitment of its donors, Darussafaka will continue to invest in the next generation of enlightened, self-confident, and socially responsible Turkish leaders for centuries to come.”

4. Supply computers for aspiring scholars in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Few employment opportunities and extreme poverty leave many students in the Democratic Republic of the Congo unable to afford computers and other equipment required for university courses. Without essential tools, these students can’t complete their studies. Through this project, In The Lord’s Hands awards refurbished computers to students based on grades, personal videos, and essays. The computers ultimately enable students to earn two credentials important to potential employers: an associate’s degree and a bachelor’s degree from an American university.

5. End bullying and keep youth safe in the United States.

More than 49% of youth report they have been bullied at school. With widespread access to the internet, bullying has become an uncontrollable issue. The PARTI Program believes youth involvement is key to addressing violence and bullying. The PARTI Program, which stands for Positive Alternative Recreation Teambuilding Impact, works with youth, schools, and philanthropic leaders to address this issue. The program provides resources for administrators and works with students to develop life skills that allow them to handle personal and social issues. It also gives them the tools to advocate for community members who have been bullied and need support.

“It is our responsibility to empower the youth of today to take care of the world. For this, they must have a voice to change things.”

You can make a QCD to these vetted nonprofits and others advancing education in 175+ countries. With GlobalGiving as an intermediary, you don’t need to worry about what charities qualify for QCD gifts—they all do.
