I was born and raised in Jordan. I have more than 17 years of martial arts experience and have received several awards for my fighting skills. In 2018, I was awarded the Economic Empowerment Global Leadership Award in recognition of a nonprofit I founded to promote women’s self-defense. Through this nonprofit, I have trained more than 12,000 women.

I was born in Dorchester County, Maryland between 1820 and 1822. I was one of nine children and began working before age five. At age 12, I was hit in the head with a 2-pound weight while defending a helpless man. From that day on, I suffered from headaches and narcolepsy. I am considered the first African American woman to serve in the military. Nicknamed Moses, I led dozens to freedom.
