The Humanitarian Crisis In Lebanon: Fast Facts

Lebanon is facing an intensifying humanitarian crisis amid the escalating conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. Discover more about the situation and how you can help Lebanon.

1. An intensifying humanitarian crisis is unfolding in Lebanon.

Lebanon is facing a severe humanitarian crisis as conflict between Israel and the Lebanon-based and Iran-backed group, Hezbollah, escalates. Lebanese officials have said that more than 2,000 people have been killed in Israeli attacks, and over 1.2 million displaced. Social services, particularly hospitals, are overwhelmed. Lebanon is already hosting one of the world’s largest per capita refugee populations, including an estimated 1.5 million Syrian refugees which had accounted for nearly a quarter of the country’s population. Now more than 250,000 people have crossed into Syria, with seventy per cent being Syrians who had previously sought safety in Lebanon.

Lebanon’s Prime Minister warned that the country is facing “one of the most dangerous phases” in its history, while fears of wider regional conflict grow.

2. Displaced families in Lebanon are having trouble finding food and water, and meeting their family’s basic needs.

The current conflict has significantly exacerbated existing challenges of access to necessities in Lebanon, pushing more people into desperate circumstances and causing the displacement of 1.2 million people over the last year. As certain communities bear the brunt of these hardships, the repercussions ripple outward, impacting the broader Lebanese population.

GlobalGiving is actively responding to the unfolding crisis, working closely with its dozens of partners on the ground in Lebanon. These local organizations are providing critical aid to those displaced by the conflict, offering food, shelter, medical care, and other essential services. However, the scale of the need is immense, and many partners are urgently calling for more support to meet the growing demand from impacted communities.
