The pandemic has proven the power of small actions. Learn more about what small donations can do for an important cause and how GlobalGiving’s Little by Little campaign can make them go further.
Since the World Health Organization declared a pandemic a year ago, we’ve seen how little things can change the world: microscopic particles have caused infections in more than 112 million people and killed 2.48 million people across the globe.
But as the number of COVID-19 cases declines worldwide, we can also see how little things—wearing masks, vials with vaccine doses, and acts of kindness toward others even when they’re far away—can have a positive impact.
As the world continues to wrestle with the effects of the pandemic, people are coming together to fuel nonprofits that are serving their communities through all the challenges.
That includes people like Linda, who donated $50 to help feed her neighbors in Northern California who are elderly and don’t have easy access to fresh groceries or even a food bank.
“So often our senior citizens, disabled, and ill are forgotten. If fortunate enough, we will all grow to an advanced age; however, we do not know what physical, mental, emotional, or financial state we will personally be in when that time comes for each of us,” Linda said.
“I just want to be one person to say I see, notice, and think of you.”
Giving a little during a pandemic helps a lot. Donations up to $50 will be matched at 50% from March 8-12, 2021.
By supporting LIFE ElderCare’s program to deliver meals to seniors affected by COVID-19, Linda was noticing people like Lila, a 79-year-old retired third-grade teacher. Lila tries to maintain a healthy diet to manage her high blood pressure, but when the pandemic and subsequent shutdowns started last year, her food supply quickly ran out. She was stuck at home without any family to turn to.
“I was scared, ” Lila said, “I really didn’t know what to do or who could help me.”
LIFE ElderCare started delivering healthy food and socially distanced greetings to Lila—thanks to donations like Linda’s.
The organization’s meal deliveries for seniors went from about 8,000 per month before the pandemic to 13,000 per month by October 2020.
Those seniors and many other people still need help as the pandemic continues. Connections like the one between Linda and Lila—extending a hand when we can and reaching out when we need to—will help them get through it.
Support people around the world who are coping with the pandemic’s effects. Donations up to $50 will be matched at 50% from March 8-12, 2021.*
