The Climate Crisis: What Will The Next Decade Bring?

Four climate activists from the GlobalGiving community share their predictions and hopes for the next decade in the movement to protect planet Earth. They agree—it hinges on the actions of everyday people.

“The crisis-opportunity window has us all in shock. We have been predicting this planetary breakdown for years, but the extinction event has us stupefied as a species. Hoorah for the activists that continue to raise awareness and motivate action for a better tomorrow! Nature speaks to us in volumes and our duty is to not just listen, but to raise a wave of concern that leads to making decisions for the immediate protection of the wilderness and equity among species sharing this planet. Despite the inevitable, we maintain our faith in the awakening of more people and our work with the youth in the Sierra Gorda region and around the world is a major driver, because we must give them hope and the tools to help us now. This isn’t about one generation. It’s about a massive tidal shift in values and priorities.”

“We hope that people from around the world will unify their voices and actions to push for solid, practical policies and behavioral changes among governments, businesses, and global citizens to protect our environment, especially for the local communities on small islands who will be more adversely affected by climate change.”

—Theresa Ng | Reef Check Malaysia | Malaysia

“Despite climate protests around the world and the dramatic rise in public awareness, there is currently very little political will to make changes in climate policies. In the next decade, the human inhabitants of the planet will take more concrete individual actions to protect it. They will dramatically change their own consumption patterns, forcing multinationals and governments to change strategies and policies, and would start individually planting many more trees. This will be a huge non-violent revolution.”

—Aviram Rozin | Sadhana Forest Kenya | Kenya

“In keeping with the spirit of all the organizations in GlobalGiving’s Climate Fund, the decade of the 20s will be about little people taking personal responsibility for stopping climate change.”

—Michael Shafer | Warm Heart WorldWide | Thailand
