Mikaela is GlobalGiving's Disaster Recovery Network Fellow. She completed her degree in geography from the University of California Berkeley, where she honed her interests in social justice and community development. Mikaela served in the U.S. Peace Corps where she acted as a business advisor and helped shift men's attitudes towards gender equity in Senegal, West Africa. Following her time in Senegal, Mikaela chose to learn more about the role NGOs play in providing ongoing care and moved to Fond-des-Blancs, Haiti where she worked as a member of the communications and development team for the community's rural hospital. She is interested in how to build sustainability within disaster response. In her free time, Mikaela moonlights as a photographer and is always committed to finding the best bagels in town.
