Racial and economic inequities have long existed in school systems around the world. Unsurprisingly, the Coronavirus pandemic is detrimentally increasing learning gaps. Research regarding online learning and teaching shows that they are effective only if students have consistent access to the internet and computers and if teachers have received targeted training and support for online instruction. Unfortunately, in underserved communities access to such resources is limited. Because these needed requirements for effectiveness have been largely absent for many, remote education during the pandemic impeded teaching and learning— but we can help by donating funds in support of students and communities.
Our Purpose: Decreasing the digital divide globally + supporting communities affected by COVID-19
One of the most critical opportunity gaps is the uneven access to the devices and internet access vital in learning online. This digital divide has made it virtually impossible for some students to learn during the pandemic. The digital divide has been undermining the academic success of students from poor families since well before the pandemic led many schools to move their operations online. President Bill Clinton, for instance, spoke of the need to close the digital divide in his 2000 State of the Union address. The pandemic has underscored this issue in a much more visible way.

The mission of W/NP is simple and effective. We help people in Nicaragua improve their quality of life in practical sustainable ways. By working with local community leaders at their request, the learning centers offer classes which lead to personal and professional growth and development, this opens doors that help provide meaningful income while allowing them to still remain in their communities to care for their families.

We started this project to create an environment for learning and in cooperation with the community the school was successfully built (see video above). The brick and mortar part of building the school was exciting and new, but just the beginning. Maintaining a school means training and paying the teachers, school gardens (and tree nursery since 2019), and providing food for our students. It makes 'having a school' an ongoing financial commitment for years to come for Zahana and the community.
Educational opportunities in Guatemala are slim - only 1 in 4 youth graduate from high school. Common Hope makes it possible for at-risk youth to stay in school & create a better life for themselves. We partner with children, families, and communities who want to participate in a process of development through programs in education, health care, and housing.
Rescue junction is a 24 hour centre for homeless abandoned and lost street children. It provides shelter food, advice education and support for children in a safe and caring environment.It also acts the only center in the district with a population of 3,000,000 million people that has programmes against child trafficking and child labour. We also have a 24 hour toll free number for children or any concerned adult to call 1098. We have rescued children from all over India, 1000 last year alone.
