The abrupt termination of USAID-supported HIV programs has created a devastating crisis for vulnerable communities across Africa, leaving children, families, and at-risk populations without essential services. These programs were more than just support—they were lifelines.
Without immediate intervention, the situation continues to devolve:
-HIV treatment and prevention efforts are collapsing, putting millions at risk.
-Community-led testing has halted, leaving many children, youth, and vulnerable groups undiagnosed.
-Nutritional support is vanishing, exacerbating HIV-related health risks.
-Protection services for survivors of violence are disappearing.
-Education for orphans and vulnerable children is in jeopardy, increasing dropout rates.
But there is hope—and impact. Thanks to your generosity, we’ve already sent $70,000 to incredible, formerly USAID-funded local organizations in countries like Botswana, Ethiopia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Dominican Republic, Kenya, Mozambique, South Africa, Rwanda, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. These partners have relaunched vital HIV services in partnership with GlobalGiving. Here are a few examples:
-Youth Alive Uganda (YAU) is improving nutrition for 168 HIV-positive children through fortified food, caregiver training, and case management.
-Kheth’Impilo DRC is restoring HIV diagnostic services in Lualaba Province, processing 5,000 viral load and infant diagnosis samples across four Health Zones.
-Project Concern Zambia (PCZ) will reach 4,000 adolescent girls/young women and 82 children with disabilities through testing, referrals, family support, and savings groups.
-CHoiCe Trust South Africa is rehiring a social worker to deliver home visits and psychosocial care for 120 HIV-positive children in Limpopo.
-ANDA Mozambique is reactivating 11 caregiver groups for 681 children, with training in adherence, nutrition, and home gardening.
-Stepping Stones International (Botswana) will provide three months of case management for 300 children, reconnecting families to treatment and services.
-OSSHD Ethiopia is supporting 255 children who defaulted due to conflict, with monthly food, healthcare, and school supplies.
-Pamuhacha Zimbabwe is monitoring viral loads for 250 children and assisting 150 survivors of sexual violence with counseling and court support.
-Additional partners—PASMO (Central America), AMURT (Kenya), CEPROSH (Dominican Republic), HOPE Worldwide Botswana, AEE Rwanda, and HIVSA South Africa—are sustaining HIV care, prevention, and psychosocial support for thousands more.
And this is just the beginning.
For years, over 150 local organizations—trusted, community-led groups at the forefront of HIV prevention, care, and treatment—delivered these services with USAID and PEPFAR funding. Now, with support cut off, they’re struggling to keep their doors open.
We’ve identified 20 high-impact local partners in urgent need. Your donations will help keep lifesaving programs running while these groups plan for long-term sustainability.
Your support can save lives. Help us restore and sustain care for HIV-affected children and families. Together, we can act quickly, fund wisely, and ensure that no child or community is left behind.
