Thank You for Your Support!

Thanks to your support, the Council of Korean Americans was able to launch the Emerging Leaders Network platform. Following the conclusion of our 2020 IgniteNextGen Professional Fellowship and mentoring events, we had an influx of Korean American college students and young professionals eager to engage and connect with one another.

With the approaching summer and a wave of new and talented individuals preparing to enter the workforce post-graduation, CKA is committed to empowering the next generation of Korean American leaders and is looking forward to selecting the 2021 Cohort of the IgniteNextGen Professional Fellowship.

On behalf of the Council of Korean Americans, we sincerely thank you again for your generosity as we continue this necessary effort. We hope that you will continue to invest in the future of the Korean American community.

Thank You for Your Support!

Thanks to your support, the Council of Korean Americans was able to help fund and support nonprofit organizations across the U.S., particularly those on the frontlines helping the most vulnerable in our communities.

We decided to prioritize three areas of need:

  1. Service for low-income senior/elderly Korean American population
  2. Mental health/family counseling service for the KA community.
  3. Economic support for undocumented families impacted by the economic downturn.

We worked hard to help other nonprofit organizations provide financial support for their respective communities, and we valued your support in our endeavors, as well! Your donations directly benefited these communities that have been impacted by COVID-19.

  • Korean American Association of Greater Atlanta
  • Korean Community Services of Greater Washington
  • Korean Community Services of Metropolitan New York
  • Korean American Family Services - Los Angeles
  • Korean American Community Services - Silicon Valley

As CKA continues to support these Korean American communities, funds will be given to nonprofits in these regions that support Korean Americans who are low-income seniors/support elder care, assist with mental health & family counseling, or provide aid to undocumented families. Direct assistance will continue to be offered to nonprofits on the frontlines of helping the most vulnerable populations of Korean Americans & ensure their constituents do not fall due to a lack of funding.

On behalf of the Council of Korean Americans, we sincerely thank you again for your generosity as we continue this necessary effort. We hope that you will continue to invest in the well-being of the Korean American community.

Your Contribution to Our Landmark Publication

On January 13, 2021, the Council of Korean Americans celebrated Korean American Day with our landmark publication The National Korean American Community: Promises, Perils, and Paradoxes authored by noted political scientist Dr. Taeku Lee of UC Berkeley.

Although highly educated and economically thriving as a whole, this revealing report also contests the myth that Korean Americans are a “model minority” group. The community faces many systemic inequities, including broad socio-economic discrimination and large pockets of poverty, especially among older generations. Many Korean Americans regularly experience racial microaggressions in their neighborhoods and suffer from high levels of substance abuse.

“In addition to detailing the progress and challenges of the community, this important research highlights the critical areas that Korean Americans need to work more intentionally to address, such as actively building bridges with other racial groups and encouraging fellow members to be more civically engaged,” shares CKA Executive Director, Abraham Kim.

This report is part of a multi-year project to provide national and local leaders––as well as civic organizations––with data and trend analysis to help identify Korean Americans’ critical needs and priorities. This published analysis is the first step in this project.

On behalf of the Council of Korean Americans, we sincerely thank you again for your generosity as we continue this necessary effort. We hope that you will continue to invest in the future of the Korean American community.
