Updates on GoodWeave COVID relief

In the aftermath of the spring surge, GoodWeave successfully prioritized the distribution of PPE and food, as well as assisted in providing vital supplies for those affected by the virus in Indian and Nepal.

In India, hundreds of thousands were newly infected, and thousands of deaths reported. Cases of COVID-19 are increased significantly in Nepal this year as well.Despite the risks, many factories and sub-contractors are producing and shipping goods, especially those where workers are living on site. Which is why GoodWeave continues to work with licensed exporters as well as non-licensed organizations to unite across the industry to lessen the impact on workers at-large.

Along with on the ground aid, GoodWeave is conducting information outreach campaigns about the virus, and vaccine availability, as well as exploring more opportunities to increase vaccination distribution.

We have reconfirmed the children in our programs are safe. We have increased resources to allow for more frequent COVID-19 testing, medical support, and things like books, games and movies to help lift the spirits of children who are faced with isolation due to the lockdown.

We are sincerely grateful to you all for supporting us in this critical time. Here’s some specifics on what we’ve accomplished so far during the pandemic, as of the end of September:

  1. 29,069 food packets distributed
  2. 114,438 workers and family members provided food aid
  3. 105,545 people provided hygiene aid, including masks
  4. 172,176 people were reached through our network, with reliable information about COVID-19
  5. 11,267 children provided educational programming

Thank you for your continued support and partnership, and please stay safe.

Updates on GoodWeave COVID relief

In the spring of 2021, the virus surged in India with hundreds of thousands infected, and thousands of deaths reported. Cases of COVID-19 are increasing significantly in Nepal, and it is unclear whether infection rates have yet peaked in India.

There is a growing shortage of hospital beds, oxygen and PPE everywhere. Despite the risks, many factories and sub-contractors are producing and shipping goods, especially those where workers are living on site. GoodWeave is prioritizing the distribution of PPE and food amongst licensed exporters, as well as assisting in providing vital supplies to non-licensed producers – this is a time to unite across the industry due to the impact the new surges are having on the worker population.

Here’s some specifics on what we’ve accomplished so far during the pandemic:

  1. 22,337 food packets distributed
  2. 93,889 workers and family members provided food aid
  3. 72,550 people provided hygiene aid, including masks
  4. 160,047 people were reached through our network, with reliable information about COVID-19
  5. 6,239 children provided educational programming

Thank you for your continued support and partnership, and please stay safe.

Updates on GoodWeave COVID relief

The impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic have caused massive supply chain disruptions around the world, wreaking havoc on marginalized worker communities globally. Estimates of the damage are devastating.

Following the lockdowns in India and Nepal in the spring of 2020, GoodWeave began connecting and strategizing to provide protection and relief to our worker communities. GoodWeave's grassroots presence enabled us to give direct food aid, provide livelihood and hygiene aid, create a secure flow of information, and improve workers' financial literacy.

In 2020, we’ve achieved the following:

  • 17,302 food packets distributed
  • 73,749 workers and family members provided food aid
  • 49,808 people provided hygiene aid, including masks
  • 115,000 people were reached through our network, with reliable information about COVID-19
  • 5,611 workers trained in financial literacy

Our focus on children remains strong. GoodWeave has supported continued education of vulnerable children in producer communities, and developed curriculum which can be disseminated to children via mobile messaging. Over 6,110 children are now enrolled.

We're proud of the work we've accomplished, and we know there's a lot more to do. We hope you continue supporting our work. Learn more about GoodWeave on our website goodweave.org.
