Guided by its founding principles of prevention, empowerment, and cultural relevance, PRYR works in the youth behavioral health field to prevent violence and keep at risk youth engaged in school. PRYR's programs are built on state of the art scientific data, adapted to Puerto Rican culture and socioeconomic realities, and grounded in the Risk and Protective Factors model. They were created in direct response to the unacceptably high dropout rates observed during critical school transition phases in low-income communities. At the heart of PRYR's work is its unique mentorship program, the first in Puerto Rico to implement one to one mentoring for high risk students ages 11 to 17. This program certified as an evidence based model has achieved a 95%+ sustained effectiveness rate since 2000 in preventing school dropout and reducing violent or delinquent behavior. Mission and Goals PRYR's mission is to develop and implement preventive programs for youth at risk, promoting their full potential for success and leadership. Its goals are advanced through: • Adult and peer mentorship that provides consistent guidance and role models. • Personal and social development workshops for youth, families, and teachers. • Academic support and Safe Haven Centers (Caney) located within schools. • Meaningful work and service experiences that foster responsibility and community engagement. Through these principles and programs, PRYR empowers young people to thrive academically, socially, and personally, ensuring they become leaders in their communities and agents of positive change.
