Dear friends and supporters,
First, thank you for making this possible for our youth! Your support means a lot to all of us at Jóvenes de Puerto Rico en Riesgo Inc. Thank you!
We want to let you know that with our Caney (Academic Support Center and Safe Space) we continue to provide academic support through supervised homework, tasks, tutoring, individualized support, study plans and educational workshops to at-risk youth students.
For the beginning months of 2024 we have had 1,355 young participants from our Cibari, Inabo programs and regular students visited the Caney for a safe space. We’ve had 90% school retention, 59 Secondary and High School teachers were assisted, and 585 high school students were served through the Caney. This data includes participating students ‘Inabos’ and regular students of the school where we have projects (San Juan, Canóvanas, Juncos and Naguabo).
We are so happy with the achievements that we have accomplished at the start of 2024 and we want to share it with you!
Our Academic Support Centers serve as a link between teachers and students. In times when the country’s education system presents challenges and instability due to the aftermath of the pandemic, various seasonal virus outbreaks and atmospheric events, our presence in schools becomes even more relevant.
The development of activities, the creation of alliances to strengthen the service to our youth and their families, and the commitment of our programmatic staff and volunteers have been key.
Here are the following enrichment activities that have been carried out:
The Academic Support Centers and Safe Space “Caney”(Arawak term meaning “meeting place”), are located in 7 schools of the Puerto Rico Department of Education located in the following schools:
They provide services during school hours and during extended hours.
Let’s celebrate that our youth are staying consistent and engaged in academics. The youth in our communities have been participating in the programs/workshops that we have been facilitating. Friends and Supporters Thank you for all of your contributions. We couldn’t have done most of these development activities without your generosity.
With gratitude,
Jóvenes de Puerto Rico en Riesgo Team
