Update on progress - Guatemala project

We are now almost a third of the way to our target. Thanks to everyone who has donated so far!

This project is very important and we will carry on working to raise money for it. As soon as we reach our target we can begin supporting children with Down syndrome and their families in Guatemala. Support and information are hard to find for parents of children with Down syndrome in Guatemala, but this project will give them the help and guidance they need to provide their children with the best possible start to life.

To help us make progress towards starting this project, please consider donating again or sharing this project with friends, family and other people you know. Thank you for your support!

Update on DSi's Africa Down syndrome project

ADSN board
ADSN board

The Africa Down Syndrome Network (ADSN) recently met in Lusaka, Zambia to officially launch and adopt its new constitution. It welcomed Rwanda and Cameroon on to its board as new members, bring the total number of countries to 12. It also elected a new Executive Board and appointed a Regional Project Coordinator.

The Coordinator will be working on a new project ADSN is launching to support the implementation of the Protocol on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities adopted by the African Union in February 2018.

We have been working with the Down Syndrome Society of Kenya to identify areas to support them. We will be supplying them with up-to-date literature on Down syndrome and have connected them with a global medical charity that they can work with to support babies with Down syndrome in Kenya to access heart surgery.

In Nigeria we are working on programme to establish self-advocacy groups, which will support people with Down syndrome to develop the skills and confidence to express their opinions and advocate for themselves. We are aiming to go to Nigeria to train self-advocacy group facilitators from Down Syndrome Foundation Nigeria in September.

The positive steps forward that our member organisations are taking are made possible by the donations we receive from you – our donors. Thank you for enabling us to support people with Down syndrome in Africa.

Fundraising - we are nearly there!

Children with Down syndrome in Nepal

We have had some good fundraising news! We have received an offline donation of £2000, leaving us with only £116 to go to reach out fundraising target and get the project started. This, added to your generous donations means we will begin implementing the project very soon!

We will start working with Down Syndrome Association Nepal straight away to work on a timetable for implementing the project, and they will begin reaching out to the families that the training will be aimed at. We will keep you updated on our progress as we start the project.

Please consider donating again or sharing with your friends and family to help us raise this last bit of money we need!
