Update on fundraising progess

We are still raising funds for this project, slowly but surely! The money raised will be used for our important work supporting parents of children with Down syndrome in Guatemala.

We will soon be launching a new website and will be promoting this project on it, which we expect will help us to reach our target faster.

Thank you to everyone that has donated to this project! We will continue working hard to find the rest of the money. Please consider donating again or sharing the project with your friends and family to help us reach our target and get the project started.

Project update - Down syndrome in Africa

Over the coming year we will be employing a self-advocate with Down syndrome from Uganda to support our work in Africa. He will be working with us to deliver training on running self-advocacy groups in Nigeria and helping the Africa Down Syndrome Network’s Regional Project Coordinator with its upcoming project supporting national groups with their advocacy efforts.

We recently met with the Rwandan Down Syndrome Organisation to discuss their plans for the next year as an organisation. We are supporting them to develop a strategy for the year focussing on developing their financial sustainability. This includes streamlining some of their activities and focusing on developing their fundraising capabilities.

Earlier in the year we managed to secure life changing heart surgery for two young children with Down syndrome from Uganda through Chain of Hope, a UK based charity specialising in heart operations. Before the surgery could proceed they needed final tests called diagnostic catheters to check it was safe to operate. We fundraised for the tests and the results show that it is safe to operate, so they should be able to have their surgery soon.

Thank you to everyone who has donated to the project and those of you who continue to make regular donations! Your donations enable us to carry on our important work supporting people with Down syndrome in Africa.

Target reached - Nepal parent support project!

Good news! We have reached our fundraising target for this project. Thank you to everyone that has donated to this campaign!

We have signed a contract agreement with Down’s Syndrome Association of Nepal (DSAN) and are working with them on the final details to prepare for starting the project. We are helping them to tweak the training curriculum to ensure it delivers the best outcomes for parents participating. We are also supporting them to develop effective tools to measure the impact of the project.

DSAN are planning to hold the first 3 day training for parents in the next few weeks, with another one to follow. They have a group of parents who are very excited to take part in the training.

Thanks to everyone who donated to this project and made it happen! We will keep you update with our progress as the training takes place in Nepal.
