Summer update

Plowed Farm
Plowed Farm

With the beginning of the rainy season in Mali, our agricultural campaign has commenced. We have plowed the farm, sowed corn and it has sprouted. This year we are benefiting from government subsidized fertilizer, and probono agricultural technician which by the look of the farm is promising. We are hoping to get a much better return on investment this year than the years before.

In April we were blessed with site visit in Bamako from Director Andy from the Segal Family Foundation, and we were able to show him the operations. In Jul, our Director of Operations in Bamako, attended the Segal Family Foundation’s annual meeting in Arusha, Tanzania. What a collaborative and learning opportunity that was!!! His overall impressions were outstanding. This opportunity allowed him to discover other operations on the continent, and discuss with other leaders confronted to similar challenges, network with other nonprofit leaders and learn from each others’ experience, understand donors’ requirements, re-energized with regards to goals, and more deeply understand human resources requirements.
This summer 3 of our children were admitted to the youth Malian Federation of basketball, and 2 of those 3 are currently playing in the youth championship of Bamako. The 3rd did not get to participate this year because of a broken leg, but will next year. 3 others received taekwondo medals (1 gold and 2 silver) during Bamako’s championship. 5 children passed to the next belt during this year’s Bamako’s Taekwondo’s tournament.

Please donate today and help us ensure that our work continues and that the vulnerable children of Mali are afforded the holistic program that ACFA offers them. Thank you for supporting our efforts towards attaining our vision.

As they grow older, the children food consumption is also increasing. In addition to healthcare and nutritious meals, we were able to harvest 1.2 tons of corn and 50 Kg of beans from our farming project to help with our increasing food consumption. Since the beginning of the academic year in October, out of 3 reporting period, one of our little girls, Diakassan, ranked twice first in her class of 44, with a GPA of over 8 out of 10 both times. Additionally, Adama and Lassine have commenced the skill building with tailoring classes. Finally, in the sport arena, 3 of our children, Diakassan, Koro, and Assan, are retained to participate in Bamako’s regional competition. The year was ended with a visit to Bamako by one of our board of directors, Alpha, who spent Christmas and New Year with the children in Bamako. Please donate today and help us ensure that our work continues and that the vulnerable children of Mali are afforded the security of the holistic program that ACFA offers them.
