A Child For All, ACFA Inc.

ACFA's vision is " a Mali where all children are afforded the tools necessary for a successful future." We march towards that vision by executing our mission: " to provides Mali's vulnerable children a safe and loving environment which fosters their health, learning, happiness, and success." ACFA was founded from the personal experience of its founder, Kadiatou F. Sidibe, who was separated from her mother from age 3 to 26 and was raised by a single father in Bamako, Mali. Beginning of School Year

Farm earlier

Ebola has reached Mali, but our children are doing well and we have implemented special steps to keep them from being contaminated. October is back to school time in Mali. Our children commenced the new academic year with much enthusiasm. Their summer program of skill building training went well. Some of them improved their tailoring skills, while others learned to do woodwork, motorcycle mechanics and at home cooking.
This year our farm flourished so much that FDA, an advertising company in Mali, used our farm in their TV advertising of organic fertilizer, and donated to ACFA. Unfortunately, we have now been affected by the drought. Bamako went through a period of time with no rain, and that was a critical period for our farm. Please see the pictures of before and after the drought. We are still hopeful for a better return on investment than last year, it is just not going to be as much as we initially anticipated.
Our work is only possible because of your generosity. Our next fundraising event will be held in Washington DC on 12 Nov 2014 at 6:00PM at Shaw’s Tavern at 520 Florida Ave., NW Washington DC 20001. Please join us to support ACFA’s projects, and allow us to continue our holistic program for the vulnerable children of Mali. Thank you for supporting our efforts towards attaining our vision.

Summer update

Fatoumata is doing well with her glasses. Her next appointment for the doctor’s evaluation is in November. At that time we will be informed of her needs for this year. In the meantime we have a volunteer helping us to recoup the funds prepaid to Necker Hospital in Paris. We will keep you informed of what the outcome is. Thank you very much for your continued support.
This summer 3 of our children were admitted to the youth Malian Federation of basketball, and 2 of those 3 are currently playing in the youth championship of Bamako. The 3rd did not get to participate this year because of a broken leg, but will next year. 3 others received taekwondo medals (1 gold and 2 silver) during Bamako’s championship. 5 children passed to the next belt during this year’s Bamako’s Taekwondo’s tournament.

In April we were blessed with site visit in Bamako from Director Andy from the Segal Family Foundation, and we were able to show him the operations. In Jul, our Director of Operations in Bamako, attended the Segal Family Foundation’s annual meeting in Arusha, Tanzania. What a collaborative and learning opportunity that was!!! His overall impressions were outstanding. This opportunity allowed him to discover other operations on the continent, and discuss with other leaders confronted to similar challenges, network with other nonprofit leaders and learn from each others’ experience, understand donors’ requirements, re-energized with regards to goals, and more deeply understand human resources requirements.

Summer update

This summer, in addition to the tailoring we added 3 more vocational training: motorcycle repair shop training and wood working training for the boys and culinary training for the girls. A Malian renowed artist, Djeneba Seck, has promised our children to take them out to dinner. The children are very excited about this opportunity. The restaurant will also take the opportunity to give culinary and nutrition lessons to the children. More to follow when this event occurs in the near future.
