Preschool uniforms needed

Littlies who will "graduate" from pre-school soon!
Littlies who will "graduate" from pre-school soon!

Due to a lack of donors for our SCHOOL UNIFORM project this last few weeks/months, we havent been able to distribute any new uniforms. But as ever we are hopeful that we will get support coming in. School  uniforms are compulsory for children throughout South Africa, even in rural villages and poor communities. This means that often families, who can scare afford it, have to spend their small amount of income buying a school uniform in order to afford their child a privelege perhaps they didnt have... that of getting and EDUCATION.

Your support in buying school uniforms is primarily aimed at low income families, and especially on children finishing pre-school, who, without a school uniform are not allowed to register for Grade 1 in school. your support for this project could truly mean the world to these children, and give them one of the biggest headstarts we can offer someone in life, the chance to receieve an education, the chance to make life better for yourself.

Thank you to the special donors who have supported and i encourage you to spread the word to friends and family to dig deep!

Meet the dogs!

Meet Lilo - our special girl!
Meet Lilo - our special girl!

Things are slow at the moment due to a lack of funding for our weekly TVT treatments and dog sterilizations, so we are really hoping this will pick up. Whilst we do continue especially with TVT treatment, a lack of funds leaves us scrambling to reallocate different project funding to cover the much needed shortfall.

In addition we have had a vehicle breakdown -- so have a vehicle in for repairs, giving us a fundraising target of R 14 500 just to pay off the vehicle bills! So if any of you are able to continue to support the project with even 5EUR or 5 DOLLARS this would really help us! Even a monthly donation of 5 DOLLARS will go a long way towards our running costs!

In the meantime, ---why dont you meet some of the happy rescue dogs that call Nourish "home". Lilo was rescued with her brother Stitch in the village about 3 years ago, they were in terrible condition-- filled with mange, ticks, fleas, skin scabbed and bleeding, starving ribs showing... because they looked so scary and would often try to steal food, people would chase them away, throw rocks or boiling water at them.. when we found them the vet said they would either make it and survive, or they would die in a few days time. For weeks we kept both pups indoors, rubbing coconut oil on them as they lost all their fur, and slowly started to heal... we kept them at my house for over a year, with Stitch the little male, happy and so so loving, but never fully recovering. Whilst sadly Stitch passed away, Lilo flourished-- her hair grew back, and she is the happiest, most protective, loyal dog you will ever find. She now lives at Nourish and is the matriarch of the pack... if you ever come visit she will be the first to jump up at the gate and bark, and the first to roll over for a belly rub. Meet Lilo-- the most special rescue girl.

In the beginning she was terrified of the children coming to the aftercare center, due to all the abuse and neglect she had suffered... the children similarly were scared of dogs, its been a slow journey teaching the children how to stroke and wash lilo, how to stroke a dog... and its been special watching the love and healing take place on both sides. so for today, LILO- our special girl!

Thank you for everything everyone makes possible!

Expanding!

studying hard :)
studying hard :)

Isnt is amazing to see how we are creating ripples!

Through your support and the love each of you give ( whether its been once off, or those that have monthly donations set up, THANK YOU!!)

We now have a creche with 35 children aged between 6 months and 5 years old... we are at the point that we are now actually looking for funding for a second wendyhouse or building as we cant fit all the children into our container creche. Isnt it amazing to think just over 2 and a half years ago we started, with a few children and 2 mothers who came with hearts full of love to volunteer their time, and now thanks to all the support of donors and the community our teachers feel empowered and proud of their creche, and boy how it has grown! The children come daily and get 2 warm healthy meals and a snack, thanks to our chickens, as well as healthy Nutrilite supplements to makje sure the children are growing healthy!

In addition our RISE early childhood development outreach now supports 5 community based preschools (creches) throughout the area, and we are fortunate enough to see the happy faces when we get feedback and reports. We have had warm blanket donations, as well as toys, and through partnerships have even managed to put paid salaries into place for a few teachers... ( although this is a constant funding challenge ) but todays report is just to show you how amazing it is to be in this position of expansion and growth, growing not only young minds, but also to more projects, and this is all thanks to YOU!

Thank you, and look at all the happy faces you made possible!
