Hand Washing With Soap is a D-I-Y Vaccine

Hand washing with soap is a "do-it-yourself vaccine" that prevents infections and saves lives – and hundreds of parents and children where we work in India have been learning together all about this!

Planet Water aims to foster and support a global and local culture of hand washing with soap through conducting activity-based, hands-on Water-Health & Hygiene Workshops covering everything from hand washing, germs and how they spread, to bathing, tooth brushing, clean water collection and storage, as well as water conservation. After each Workshop, the parents and children continue learning through a fun-filled community viewing of our DVD, which was created by Sesame Workshop in support of our program, followed by more games and activities.

Don’t take it from me – take a look at what the children and their caregivers had to say about the impact YOU have help to make:

“…My favorite activity was working with the giant teeth and toothbrush. I now know how to brush my teeth properly.
- 5th Grade Student

“Thank you for teaching us about keeping ourselves clean and keeping the water clean. The checklist about keeping the water clean is helpful. It will serve as a reminder for my entire family and me. - Mother of a Kindergarten Student

“The health and hygiene Workshops served as a bonding activity for my child and me. It is a great experience drawing, performing and playing with him. This is my first time to learn new things with my son. – Mother of a 1st Grade Student

For the children across India, having access to hygiene education for the first time means hope for a healthier future, improved education and lots of happiness. Thank you - YOU have made a difference in the lives of those in need. Please continue to give the gift of hygiene education – and spread the word – because together, we can continue to make a difference to those in need!

CAMBODIA: Lives Transformed

From the children at school drinking clean water for the first time, to the young girls and women who no longer have to spend their days collecting water, over 2,000 people’s lives have been transformed thanks to YOU!

For over two years now, since having clean, safe water from the AquaTowers and receiving our hygiene education program, the children and families living in Taek and Chey Villages are no longer suffering from waterborne illness! The AquaTowers have made an impact in the lives of so many, especially the young girls who are now able to stay in school instead of spending their days collecting water. The students continue to bring the clean water home from school and their newly learned hygiene practices, such as hand washing, are now becoming habits.

Thank you for your continued donations and help in these efforts, as we are hoping to deploy more AquaTowers in many more communities in Siem Reap so that thousands of more lives can be transformed!

What Having Access to Clean, Safe Water Means...

As the New Year is well under way, hundreds of parents and children in Cambodia have access to clean, safe drinking water for the first time - thanks to your support and generosity throughout 2016!

Having access to clean, safe water means children, especially young girls, can go to school instead of spending their day collecting water. Having access to clean, safe water means people no longer have to suffer from chronic waterborne diseases. Having access to clean, safe water means hope for a healthy future.

In our world today, one in eight people lack access to clean drinking water.  In Cambodia today, 30% lack access to clean water and 74% of all deaths come from waterborne diseases. Through your generosity, you have provided nearly 2,000 children and their families in Taek Village clean drinking water and hygiene education for the very first time. The impact that has been made in the community is unmistakable:
- 98% of students now wash their hands with soap
- The economic prosperity within the community has increased
- School attendance has improved by reducing the number of days missed due to chronic diarrhea caused by drinking unsafe water

For those living in Taek Village, having access to clean, safe water for the first time means that over 1,000 children and their families can’t stop smiling! Please continue to give the gift of water – and spread the word – because together, we can find out what having clean, safe water means to thousands more…Thank you!
