Challenge

There are currently one in eight people (over 1 billion) who do not have access to clean, safe drinking water; 60% of which reside in Asia. In addition, 4,000 children die every day from water related illnesses, and women and children spend hours a day collecting water, further exposing themselves to disease and taking away educational opportunities. This project will bring clean, safe water and hygiene education to more than 2,000 people in two rural villages in Siem Reap, Cambodia.

Solution

Planet Water deploys AquaTowers, community-based water filtration systems, and hygiene education into primary schools in rural villages. The AquaTowers provide the daily drinking water requirements of 1,000 people. In conjunction with the deployment of the AquaTower, our activity-based water-health and hygiene education program is implemented in the schools we serve. We begin by training the primary school teachers who will then be able to teach the four-module program in their classrooms.

Long-Term Impact

This project will provide clean, safe water and hygiene education to more than 2,000 children and community members in two villages in Siem Reap, Cambodia. This will help to alleviate waterborne disease, illness, and death caused by drinking contaminated water, along with allowing more women and children to go to school instead of collecting water for hours each day.
