American Foundation for Children with AIDS

The American Foundation for Children with AIDS (AFCA) is a non-profit organization providing critical comprehensive services to infected and affected HIV+ children and their caregivers. Our programs are efficient, promoting self-reliance and sustainability. Since 2005, in collaboration with our in-country partners, we have served tens of thousands of families in some of the most underserved and marginalized communities in Africa. Our areas of impact include: medical support, livelihoods, educational support and emergency relief.
Seeds of Hope

AIDS orphans are among the most forgotten children and the hungriest. 3,750 youth aged 12-24 will be trained in conservation farming, giving them skills needed to grow nutritious vegetables in arid areas. As the children learn how to plant, harvest and produce their food, they learn valuable life and gardening skills so that they can fend for themselves and can be marketable due to their competencies as gardeners. This project, in partnership with Seed Program International, will be life saving. project reportread updates from the field
Goats and Training for Daya and her siblings

Being an orphan is not easy. Raising siblings is not easy. Taking care of a grandma is not easy. We will provide three grown, pregnant goats and a male goat to a family of orphans to help them on the road to self-sufficiency. They will be trained prior to and after receiving the animals, vaccines and transport of the animals. Seeds for a personal garden are included, too, so that the manure will be put to good use, giving the children fresh veggies to complement the milk from their goats. project reportread updates from the field

School Fees for five AIDS Orphans

Children who've lost their parents have a very difficult time paying the school fees, uniform and books needed to attend school in Africa. This project will allow five children to attend school for the entire school year. project reportread updates from the field
Help Keep Martin in School

Martin in an AIDS orphan who is also HIV+. He doesn't have anyone to help him cover costs for his uniform, shoes, school fees, occasional transportation, or books, but he sure wants to keep going in his Form 8 class. We want to keep Martin in school, too! We (and he) know that this is an incredible chance for him to move forward and hopefully, out of the slums of Mombasa. With a little help, Martin can keep going and going and going. project reportread updates from the field
