Programs

The Fruit Tree Planting Foundation (FTPF) helps communities address food security issues while also restoring degraded environments through the planting of fruit trees and provision of training in tree care. FTPF puts trees in the ground and food on the table in communities around the world. Fruit Relief: FTPF donates orchards to alleviate hunger and empower communities in low-income communities in the U.S. and the developing world. Fruit Relief projects include planting orchards in more than 30 rural villages in the Indian state of Maharashtra, launching a community owned fruit tree nursery in the Tana Delta region of Kenya, and working with farmers in Mozambique to plant fruit trees to supplement family nutrition and incomes. Fruit Tree 101: FTPF donates and plants school orchards across the country, providing generations of students with healthy nutrition options, school yard beautification, and environmental education opportunities. Reservation Preservation provides fruit and nut tree orchards to communities on Native American reservations. This exciting program offers tribal communities a hand up instead of a hand out as they grow their community resource base and remember the skills of self-reliance. Fruitful Communities offers orchards to low-income communities around the U.S. FTPF provides workshops on tree care, including pruning and organic pest control so that community members have the tools to care for their new community orchard. Roots of Recovery: FTPF works with patients and residents at drug rehabs, hospitals, women's shelters, and centers for individuals with development disabilities, to plant fruit trees as horticultural therapy. Orchards for Animals gives animals on sanctuaries shade, shelter, foraging opportunities, and healthy fruits to supplement their diets-allowing sanctuaries to use resources normally spent on purchasing fruit in other ways to improve their animals' lives.
