Programs

Cherish Others challenges unhelpful traditional practices which marginalize girls and women in the Maasai Community of TransMara such as Female Genital Mutilation, FGM, Early/Child marriages, wife sharing and ritual feasts. Cherish Others is also supporting education for girls who have been rescued from Early marriage and FGM in TransMara. The girl child is also denied access to health and education in preference for the boy child. In addition to women marginalisation, the aforementioned unhelpful customs aggravate HIV/AIDS infection rate amongst the community. Therefore, Cherish Others conducts HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention campaigns alongside the Anti FGM activities. During this process, publication materials from National AIDS Control Council, NACC are distributed to participants. In Summary, the Activity Focus as indicated below: HIV/AIDS Awareness advocacy, prevention and management Championing for girl child rights and education Violence against women Providing Information Education and communication on gender issues, harmful traditional practices, hygiene, nutrition, family planning and responsible parenthood, in order to promote knowledge and better understanding of the girl child, the youth and women in the community Orphan and vulnerable children care and support Institutional capacity building
