Challenge

Out of school young girls affected by armed conflict have limited knowledge and ability to survive and take care of themselves. Some have become single mothers as a result of the conflict which has increased their vulnerability to other forms of abuse including gender-based violence. With an educational system that does not foster entrepreneurship, beneficiaries are even more exposed to malnutrition and poverty. Our project seeks to support the development of hands-on skills in snail farming.

Solution

100 maidens will co-create a training and demonstration snail farm where they will learn skills in snail farming and also receive support from UNIMAC in creating individual snail farms within their home where they live. Supervised by a team of experts Through a demonstration farm as well as supporting 100 maidens to start and grow their own snail farms for both household consumption and marketing. The project shall equally provide training in digital marketing and entrepreneurship to the maiden

Long-Term Impact

The project is a long-standing source of marketable skills and knowledge for livelihood and income generation that will continue to be used. The beneficiaries shall acquire skills in sustainable farming as well as protect the environment. Snail farming has been identified as a farming practice that does not harm the environment. The project shall engender a nail farming culture in Cameroon & encourage the consumption of snails which a rich source of protein that is not harmful to the human body
