The project wants to provide an "estufa" (gas kitchen) and other household appliances to displaced families who fled from their homes because of guerrillas and who live in extreme poverty in remote areas of Bogota. Here a hot meal is vital.
Bogota is located on the Cordillera of Colombia, to more than 3000 meters high. Here the life of many families is particularly difficult because of the bad weather conditions: cold, humidity and strong wind are very frequent. Most of the population still live in precarious shacks made of wood and other scrap material, without drinking water, toilets and drains. They have a miserable camping cookers, old pots and nothing else. In this area the malnutrition affects 90% of children.
The project will be implemented in partnership with Fundacion Prosol ngo. First our local partner identifies the families in greatest need; then he buys the "estufas" and other household appliances and checks their correct use, after being installed. The families are provided with food in a basic basket and some new pots. Parents enrolled in the program are asked to attend a training course about sanitation, nutrition and the general taking care of their children.
The project will promote the right of food, improve sanitary conditions in homes and encourage families to a greater involvement in taking care of their children. The provision of an "estufa" or other household appliances allows families to cook hot food and to improve the housing conditions.
