Nearly one million people in the Philippines are at risk after Taal volcano erupted for the first time in more than 40 years on Jan. 12, 2020. Hundreds of thousands of people in Taal and other nearby provinces have been displaced from their homes.
The Taal eruption covered the region with volcanic ash and triggered more than 50 earthquakes. Officials have warned of the risk of future magma explosions that could impact residents as far as Manila, located 45 miles away. Each of the projects below is led by a vetted, GlobalGiving nonprofit partner on the ground in the Philippines, responding to the needs of evacuees and affected communities.
