Progress Report of "Zakat Can Empower Poor Parents in Bangladesh" Project of GlobalGiving
Period: January-March 2025
Dear Valued Development Partners,
Since 1998, Dakbhanga Bangladesh (DBD) has been operating two primary schools in the remote Ramu sub-district of Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh, as part of our commitment to providing quality education for underprivileged children. Thanks to the generosity of contributors like you, students have been receiving education from Early Childhood Development (ECD) through Grade V, along with limited support for their secondary and postsecondary education.
In parallel, our Zakat initiative has been instrumental in supporting impoverished and vulnerable school-age children within the catchment area of the Dakbhanga Education Project. These efforts are made possible through Zakat contributions from compassionate donors—including DBD staff and friends both locally and internationally.
Through this initiative, we aim to uplift low-income families whose children study alongside regular students in our schools. With funding from the Zakat program, we provide essential school uniforms, educational materials, and other supplies. Occasionally, we also offer cash assistance to help ease their financial burdens and improve their overall living conditions.
Your continued support allows us to reach more children in need and build brighter futures for the communities we serve.
We are supporting 12 families now with this Zakat fund selected from our 4 school community. We are supporting them to develop their living standard and to continue their children’s learning facilities to go forward. Zakat can increase their family income. We hope to support more families to set the families economic solvency by which they can ensure safer education and basic needs of their children, especially school-aged children. We are dedicated to assisting low-income families so that their children can complete primary school and continue their education until they reach eighteen. However, Dakbhanga lacks resources, so in order to continue our work, parents urgently need assistance from both local and international humanitarian organizations. Operating this initiative is more challenging in the new global situation without the cooperation of generous friends from overseas.
Dakbhanga-Bangladesh (DBD) remains deeply committed to supporting underprivileged communities through two primary schools and three feeder schools. To sustain and expand this vital effort, DBD is seeking additional contributors to the Zakat Fund.
These donations will help struggling families ensure their children can pursue education up to a secure level—reaching at least age 18. This initiative empowers young individuals to build a brighter future and achieve a dignified standard of living.
