There are currently more than 550 youths in Mezam that suffers from illiteracy and poverty. With the outbreak of the Anglophone crisis in Cameroon, the illiteracy rate has been on the increase due to school dropouts both in primary and secondary school. This situation in the North West has brought untold stories and many high crimes waves. This includes stealing, Gender Base violence, arm conflict and low level of education
The project will respond by reintegrating vulnerable out-of-school children and youths into education and skills training. Through a scholarship program, the project will cover key education costs such as school fees, uniforms, textbooks, and learning materials, removing financial barriers to school attendance. Priority will be given to girls, displaced learners, orphans, and children from low-income households. To help learners catch up, the project will provide remedial and catch-up classes.
Over the long term, the project will directly benefit at least 200 vulnerable children and youths, including school dropouts, displaced learners, and girls at risk. These beneficiaries will be reintegrated into formal education or supported through alternative learning and vocational pathways. One of the main long-term outcomes will be a significant reduction in illiteracy within the target communities. By supporting school reintegration and remedial learning, beneficiaries will acquire skills.
