There is need to Establish and Sustain Community Drug Delivery and Adherence Support Points for Non-Suppressed and Second/Third-Line adolescents in Lira Districts. The sudden closure of our Community Drug Delivery Points due to donor cuts has led to increased non-suppression for HIV positive adolescents who are now affected by non-adherence, drug resistance, and co-morbidities. some of these are now in second and third-line regimens with higher pill burden that require stricter adherence.
USAID funding cuts led to closure of all Youth Alive Uganda (YAU) community HIV drug points in Lira District, Uganda, risking treatment failure for two fragile groups: non-suppressed CLHIV needing intensive adherence support, and CLHIV on 2nd/3rd-line ART with complex, supply-chain-fragile regimens. Overburdened clinics cannot provide the specialized care needed, leading to high risk of drug resistance and loss to follow-up.
YAU will preserve advanced ART access and boost adherence for high-risk adolescents living with HIV in Lira district, thereby stopping viral failure/resistance by; 1. Re-establishing and activate a specialized community drug delivery points (CDDPs) within 6months 2. Achieving >90% viral load suppression among non-suppressed adolescents living with HIV within 12 months. 3. Ensuring 100% uninterrupted ART access for 2nd/3rd-line clients (zero stock-outs).
