We will train and provide farming inputs to 2,000 youth in order for them to undertake small-scale sustainable integrated farming initiatives so that they are able to increase their food and income, regenerate their farm and become progressive farmer-models in their respective communities. We will advocate permaculture as their farming practice as opposed to conventional agriculture using pesticides and hybrid varieties.
Most common agriculture practice relying on synthetic fertilizer, monoculture and hybrid varieties has made farmers poor, with farm inputs like fertilizer and seeds expensive, increasing soil infertility and biodiversity loss. Our solution is developing young farmers to practice regenerative, circular system that provide food, income and resilience by the elimination of waste, nutrient recycling, integrating tree growing, water conservation and many more.
We will advocate regenerative agriculture that nurtures the land, improve land productivity at the same time increase the incomes of the youth. We call this permaculture or low-energy recycling and organic farming using local resources found in the farm. We will do this by training the youth and providing them with initial farming inputs so that they can start and expand on their own.
Small farms and the condition of the small farmer is what is needed in order to improve and sustain the planet, not large, mono-crop farming systems. Proving regenerative farming as a way of life and solution to poverty in the rural areas means improvement in the general welfare of the local communities. Young farmers will carry-on improvements onwards.
