LMF Youth Farming Project Report July 2025

By Mercy Egbuchulam-Onyianta | Project Leader

Dear Esteem Donor,

We are thrilled to share more encouraging updates from our ongoing Youth Farming Project in the rural community of Umunoha, Imo State, Nigeria. Thanks to the generous support of donors like you, we continued to make steady progress. Together, we are working to improve the lives of young people in rural Nigeria and address the root causes of hunger.

What We’ve Accomplished

Our farmers recently replanted fresh pumpkin (Ugu) seeds to replace dried and non-productive sections of the vegetable farm. This replanting aims to ensure a quick and bountiful harvest this season. The farm is currently thriving, with vigorous tendrils, lush green leaves, and early signs of flowering. Our maize crop is also flourishing.

In addition, preparations are underway to grow more Queen variety pineapples and pawpaw. These will be started in nursery bags for better germination and transplanting. The batch planted last year is expected to be ready for harvest by the end of this year

Seed Crops

This season’s Ugu seeds were carefully selected from last year’s best harvest. We’ve also placed an order for new pepper seedlings to replace withered and unproductive plants.

Farm Maintenance

With the onset of heavy rains in June, our team has been diligently weeding and maintaining the farm to prevent overgrowth and ensure soil health.

Stocks and Supplies

During the dry season, our farmers gathered large quantities of ash, organic manure, and pesticides in preparation for this farming period. Efforts are also ongoing to reinforce legume stakes and repair damaged sections of the perimeter fencing.

We’re excited to announce that our youth farmers will receive training on innovative yam mindset techniques—a step toward expanding their agricultural skills. Their energy and dedication are fueled by your continued support. Thank you for believing in them.

Help Us Do Even More

We invite you to support our upcoming campaign. Starting July 16 at 10 a.m. EDT, donations of $100 or more to eligible projects on GlobalGiving will be matched from a $125,000 bonus fund. This is an incredible opportunity to amplify your impact. Please share our project with a friend and invite them to contribute too.

Why This Matters

Did you know that the agribusiness sector in Africa is projected to be worth over $1 trillion by 2030? Africa has nearly two-thirds of the world’s arable land, yet many small and medium agricultural entrepreneurs remain underserved. With 60% of Africa’s population under the age of 25, and only 2% of graduates specializing in agriculture, empowering our youth is not just an option—it’s essential.

By supporting this project, you are:

  • Investing in youth
  • Fighting food insecurity
  • Creating local jobs
  • Building community resilience

Your donation is more than a gift—it’s a seed of transformation. Please help us continue this vital work by encouraging friends to join us. Share our story on social media and inspire others to act. Your good deeds are not invisible; they leave a trail engraved in the hearts of our youth.  You truly are our heroes—thank you!

We will keep you informed with ongoing updates. If you have any questions, feedback, or ideas, feel free to contact us at 1(631) 827-677.

With gratitude,

Lady Mitz Foundation
