Project Report | Feb 16, 2023
Lets start 2023

By Karolina Rojas Kolomiets | Alliances Director

From Accion Joven we accomplished a lot of goals in 2022, we want to present some of those results.

High Opportunity Schools (CAO for its acronym in Spanish) is a network of public high schools that, from a collaborative work vision, seeks to strengthen institutional educational management with a focus on successful student permanence.

Since 2015, CAO has been working in networks of public educational centers located in areas of high social vulnerability in the provinces of Puntarenas, Guanacaste, Limón and San José. Currently, CAO responds to the country's commitment to improve the quality of the education system and the reduction of student exclusion, set out in the "National Development and Public Investment Plan 2019-2022".

From July to December 2022, CAO imlements the program in 13 educational centers emphasizing:

  • Accompany and advise efforts to reduce and prevent intra- and interannual educational exclusion.
  • Support the preparation towards employability and vocational guidance of adolescents and young people.

Some data of our results:

  • Linked students: 531
  • Teachers trained: 97
  • Vocational tours to companies: 12
  • Sessions on employability and vocational guidance: 158
  • Training sessions for teachers in educational permanence: 84

"Thank you very much for the opportunity of this activity and everything you taught us in the sessions... I was in a moment where I wanted to throw the towel, but now I feel more motivated than ever.  I'm going to follow my dreams!"

Allison, tenth year student at Liceo San Miguel de Desamparados
