This project supports 300 at-risk secondary students in Costa Rica to stay in school through academic support, socio-emotional skills development, and access to real education and employment opportunities. In 2025, nearly 19,000 students were excluded from the public education system, highlighting the urgency of action. By preventing dropout, the program helps youth build sustainable futures and break cycles of exclusion.
In Costa Rica, 19.3% of people over age 15 have not completed formal education, limiting their access to quality employment. Youth already represent 23% of national unemployment, and those who drop out face even greater barriers to decent work. This exclusion increases vulnerability, as 53% of people convicted of crimes are youth. Leaving school significantly raises the risk of unemployment and exposure to violence.
This project addresses school dropout by providing at-risk students with academic support, socio-emotional skills, and clear pathways to education and employment. Through in-school interventions, personalized follow-up, and career guidance, students stay engaged and build the skills needed to succeed.
