Youths with Future!
By Alison Smith | Project Leader
![]()
We have joined forces with the biggest gas provider in Argentina (Gas Natural Fenosa) and the Federal Ministry for Employment to create a new and exciting project for youths at risk in Greater Buenos Aires.
The project seeks to help students finish the classes they need to complete in order to graduate from college while getting hands on experience in the construction industry.
To date five ex-interns have been interviewed and taken on to work on the community development projects we organize. The group is being paid by the gas company to complete their studies whilst working with the Foundation Pro Vivienda Social. We see it as a WIN WIN WIN! Not only do they get paid to finish school, they also gain invaluable workplace skills whilst helping to upgrade the neighborhoods where they live.
The group is studying one day per week and working the other four with our team in marginalized communities.
We need your help to expand the project and help more kids to finish college in order to get a good job and get ahead!

Read all about it!

Thanks to the work carried out by group of motivated interns form two technical high schools in Greater Buenos Aires we now have a solid assessment of the neighborhoods involved in the natural gas project, ´Barrios de Unión y Futuro´ (Neighborhoods in Union for the Future).
The students have processed the information and produced an extensive report about the six neighborhoods they surveyed in order to make the gas project as affordable as possible for the whole community. The report has been sent to the Gas Company and engineers who will use the information to define where the gas pipes are built.
The report was also published in the latest community newspaper put together by neighbors to promote the project.
Thanks to the kids work, the gas works are set to begin this August!

Physical Challenge!
By Alison Smith | Project Leader
![]()
During the month of February a team ten young adults from Moreno have been given a physical challenge by the Fundación Pro Vivienda Social: they are mapping every block of their neighborhood, that´s some 158 blocks, in order for us to begin the construction of the new gas line for them and their families!
The team is made up of 10 young people from low income suburbs in Greater Buenos Aires. Five are graduates from our First Opportunity Program and the other five are new interns who are participating in the program this year (see our other reports to learn more about the project and its aims). Together, they are working with neighbors and Community Development Workers to survey their neighborhoods and map the six neighborhoods which are involved in the Neighborhoods in Unity and Future Trust Fund.
Their mission is to paint a picture of the neighborhoods in order to understand the physical state before the construction of the natural gas network. The information they are collecting includes information about the state of roads, footpaths, plazas, schools, public amenities and infrastructure – the more we know before we build the gas line the faster, safer and easier the process becomes.
We wish them luck and will be sure to share the maps they produce once they are done!
Thanks for your ongoing support!
