YDoS is a pan-African project that will mobilise, empower, and equip up to 10,000 young people across the continent to implement grassroots, community-led projects, reaching over 300,000 people with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) aligned interventions. From improving access to clean water, energy and quality education, to zero hunger, good health, and climate action, young people identify the most urgent needs in their communities and deploy solutions to address the problem in real time.
Less than 5 years to 2030, Africa faces critical gaps with only 6% of the 32 SDG targets reviewed by UNDP being on track. In Africa, one-third of the nearly 420 million youths are unemployed, 100 million out of school children in Sub-Saharan Africa, 39.72% infant mortality rate,1.34 billion face water insecurity, and gender parity score is 68.0%. Urgent, bold, community-led action is needed to close these gaps and secure a sustainable future for Africa.
The Youth Day of Service (YDOS) will, through generous donations like yours, harness and resource the power, passion, and innovation of Africa's young people to directly tackle key development challenges. By mobilising thousands of youth-led volunteer projects across the continent, YDOS promotes grassroots action in areas such as education, health, environmental sustainability, gender equality, and economic empowerment. Each project is a step toward addressing Africa's SDG gaps for social impact
The long-term impact of the Youth Day of Service (YDOS) lies in cultivating a generation of over 50,000 active citizens who are deeply invested in Africa's sustainable development. By embedding volunteerism, civic responsibility, and social innovation into young people's mindsets, YDOS helps build a culture of accountability, empathy, and action.
