General objective To empower girls youths in the slums with the knowledge on sexual reproductive health, and behavioral change mechanisms. Goal: To reduce early pregnancy, HIV/AIDS and STDs infection among the youth in Uganda. Purpose: To increase access to, and knowledge of sexual reproductive health information and rights and HIV/AIDS prevention knowledge and practices among the youths in urban slums.
The unmet need for reproductive health and family planning in Uganda has been immensely responsible for the increase in unwanted pregnancies amongst the slum adolescent's and youths, HIV/AIDS and STD infection. Slum teenage girls are suffering with unsafe abortion, others have become teenage mothers (Sometimes single mothers) due to lack of information and knowledge about reproductive health, life skills, decision making, negotiation and assertiveness. 3-4 cases of sexual abuse are reported.
The project will increase adolescent's access to reproductive health services and HIV/AIDS prevention and management. -Youths will be equipped with knowledge on reproductive health, life skills decision making, HIV/AIDS and STDs prevention mechanisms. -Increased number of peer educators on reproductive health among young people in slum area of operation -Changed attitudes of parents, local leaders and society towards youth protection and behavior in the slums.
