The 64th London International Youth Science Forum (LIYSF) took place between 27th July and 9th August 2023. The opening ceremony was attended by Katherine Mathieson Director of the Royal Institution and the keynote address was delivered by Nobel Prize Winner Professor Ben Feringa. We offered nine scholarships for African students to attend the Forum in person. Of these Karen, Brady and Abel attended from Kenya, Nshavo and Priscilla attended from South Africa and Yolanda attended from Zimbabwe. These African students took their place alongside over 400 other global young scientists for two weeks of lectures, debates, visits to science institutions and social and cultural interactions.

Due to a visa issue Kimani from Kenya was unable to travel to London, but he did attend the Forum virtually through the online platform along with over 12 other YoSA funded students from Kenya and Tanzania.

Yolanda wrote about her experiences at the Forum: “The Science Bazaar was extraordinary. It complimented this year’s theme ‘Science for Unity’ because it gathered brilliant young minds from eighty-four different countries who had projects that were focused on solving some of the world’s most notorious problems.”.
