Jovens Artistas 2017!/Young Artists 2017!

By Ana Glaucia | Manager

Queridos doadores,

Dear Donors,

In July 2016 we inaugurated the Young Biodiversity Artists program which cultivated an enthusiasm to learn about the biodiversity, local history and traditional culture in our 12 students. The project taught techniques of photography as a means to study, as well as capture the beauty, of our natural wonders and our cultural heritage. The students were also divided into 3 groups to produce short documentaries on the different themes, click the link below to see the Biodiversity Group´s video:

The impact of the course went well beyond the classroom as many students began developing the skills they had learned in their own free time, independently. For example, one of our students, Giovanna, is sadly leaving Iporanga as her family is relocating to a nearby town called Ilha Comprida. Her family wanted to encourage her interests and develop her professional skills before she moved to this new town and as a result the family discussed with Giovanna about what career she would like to pursue. Giovanna expressed her passion for photography and the family decided to save up to purchase her photography equipment so she can train her skills.

The course's success reinforced IPBio´s commitment to maintaining this project in 2017.  With the start of the New Year, we want to get a head start on planning and incorporate what we learned from the pilot program in our 2017 course. IPBio will be holding meetings next month to brainstorm improvements we could make. Suggestions from our donors are more than welcome!
