Behind the scenes at Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya and in laboratories across the world, our dedicated team of scientists, rangers, and caretakers are working tirelessly every single day.

First, the good news from the field! At the beginning of this year, the team successfully completed another gentle egg collection with Fatu.

Thanks to the incredible skill of the team, we successfully created one new embryo meaning we now have 39 northern white rhino embryos safely preserved in frozen storage. Because natural breeding is no longer possible for this subspecies, this growing bank of embryos represents our genetic safety net.

Saving a species through In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) in rhinos has never been done before in human history - every single step is a brand-new learning curve.

Late last year, the expert team conducted three embryo transfers using Southern White Rhino surrogates. Sadly, none of these attempts resulted in a long-term pregnancy. While news like this is tough to digest, it is a natural part of pioneering ground-breaking medicine.
